Church of Christ Leadership
Minister: Bro. Robert Gibbons Sr.
Church of Christ Organization
The church of Christ, as identified in the New Testament, is an organic institution, but without self-government as a church. It is not subject to nor governed by “Conferences,” “Symbols”, “Councils" or ”General Assemblies.” Its government is a monarchy with Christ as the supreme head and absolute authority in the church. Although the church of the New Testament was subject to the divine authority of Christ, it was composed of many congregations of Christians which were self-governing, independent assemblies. Each congregation was autonomous, independent of other congregations.
The body of Christ, his church, consist of members who participates in the worship and service of the church, each contributing to the unity and function of the church in its endeavor to accomplish its mission to preach the gospel to save the lost souls everywhere (I Corinthians12: 1-27; Ephesians 3:10; I Corinthians1: 21).
Elders
Christ the supreme head, delegated authority to Elders, also called bishops, overseers, pastors, (all referring to the same office) for authority and direction of the local congregation.
Deacons
Special servants in the local congregation were men known as Deacons who serve under the direction of elders (Acts 11:30; 14:23; 20:17,28; Ephesians 4:11; I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; I Timothy 3:8-13).
Preacher
In the New Testament Church men serve as preachers, evangelists or minister (Timothy 2:7; I Timothy 4:6; II Timothy 2:7; not necessarily pastors. The “pastors” of a local congregation were the elders, overseers. The preachers of these local congregations were not referred to as “Reverend”. This term was used only once in the Bible and refers to God (Psalms 111:9).
